UNIT 1: Spatial Perspective Summary
Chapter 1
1. Thinking About Space:
-Geography is a spatial science about physical features and human features. Geographers study maps to show the spatial patterns and distribution of various features on the Earth's surface.
2. Thinking About Place:
-Every place on the Earth has an absolute and relative location. Location of places are displayed on maps. Maps can also show similiar characteristics of places that are near each other.
3. Thinking About Regions:
-Regions show places that have similiar physical and human characteristics. Regions allow geographers to study the connection between various places.
4. Thinking About Scale:
-Geographers study features on the Earth through various scales, local to global scales. In today's world of continous connection, the global scale is becoming more important to be aware of.
5. Thinking About Connections:
-Places are connected to each other; thus, they show similiarities and change. Geographers study the interaction of humans and activities across different levels of space. Geographers also study the ways new ideas, people.innovations, and goods spread to other places and impact the environment and cultural landscape in other places.
